Burford anchors the area with grocery, school and a real village core. Scotland and Oakland are smaller and more rural. Properties range from detached homes to farmhouses and acreage. Buyers come here for land and value, knowing most errands require a drive.
Burford and Scotland grew up as 19th-century agricultural service villages along the Hwy 53 / 24 corridors and remain part of County of Brant farmland rather than city-edge suburbs. The villages have changed less than almost anywhere else in the County in the past 50 years.
If you want more land for your money, this is where it starts to show.
Watch out for: You need to be realistic about driving, services, internet, septic, wells, and rural maintenance. Every weekday errand involves a drive, and some properties have non-conforming uses or zoning quirks that affect financing and insurance. Always include a well + septic inspection plus a zoning check.
Who it’s not for: If you want walkable village services, look at Paris & Northwest Brant or St. George & Northeast Brant. If you want rural privacy with closer city access, look at Mt. Pleasant & Southeast Brant or the Airport area inside The Southwest.
