Shellard Lane tells you what West Brant is. Detached homes, semis and townhouses run through Conklin, Blackburn and Strickland, with school drop-offs, sports schedules and grocery runs shaping the week. Edith Monture, St. Basil, St. Gabriel and Assumption anchor families here, with the new Blanche E. Williams school and southwest community hub reshaping the area through 2026. Sobeys on Colborne West handles most errands, with smaller retail nodes filling in around it. This is where Brantford has grown for the last twenty years.
The neighbourhood honours Charlotte Edith Anderson Monture — a Kanien'kehá:ka nurse and First World War veteran from Six Nations of the Grand River — through both Edith Monture Park and Edith Monture Elementary School (renamed from Ryerson Heights in 2022).
If you want newer construction in Brantford, this is usually where we start.
Watch out for: West Brant sits on the other side of the Grand from the rest of the city and the 403 — so the bridges over the river can stack up at rush hour. Build a few extra minutes into your weekday commute, and pay attention to which bridge your route crosses.
Who it’s not for: If you want a walkable downtown, century-home charm, or a five-minute hop to the 403, this isn't your card — that lives downtown, in Old Paris, or in the North End. West Brant is for buyers who want newer, larger, and a tight school-anchored daily routine.
